No matter if you’re having your wedding makeup done or you’re simply trying to look your best in your day to day life, a selection of good lipsticks is something you want to have in your makeup organiser. However, having said that, there’s no getting away from the fact that there’s a right and a wrong way to put it on, which can greatly affect the final result.

As beauty courses online show us, there’s a dazzling array of different lipsticks to choose from, but if you want to achieve the desired look, there are certain mistakes that you will want to avoid. That’s what we look at here and show you how a makeup artist course can give you the skills you need for a long and rewarding career as a professional.

Mistake #1 - Rubbing Lips Together Post-Application:

A really common mistake that many make happens directly after the lipstick is applied, rubbing your lips together. While this might seem like the thing to do to make your lips seem fuller and more sumptuous, what it actually does is move a lot of the coverage inside the mouth - leading to uneven colouring on the lip area you can see - so avoid doing it if you can!

Mistake #2 - Not Exfoliating Your Lips Pre-Application:

As TAFE makeup courses cover, in-depth, proper lipstick application is a multi-step process. You see, the lips can often become dry and bumpy due to the skin being so thin, but applying lipstick directly onto it doesn’t cover it up - rather, it accentuates the unevenness. So, you should use a dedicated scrub that will make your lips super-soft and even, meaning you’ll get a nice, smooth surface to apply lipstick.

Mistake #3 - Forgetting to Regularly Moisturise Your Lips:

Something else people forget is to moisturise the lips on a regular basis. A good lip balm will typically contain intense hydrating ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil, as well as elements that have a nourishing effect. Forget to take care of this important job and make it harder for yourself, as lips that aren’t maintained are usually drier and bumpier.

Mistake #4 - Not Blotting Away Excess Lippy:

Another common issue that makeup courses cover is how to avoid over-applying lipstick and having it end up on your teeth! This often happens because some ladies skip the blotting stage that allows the tissue used to remove any surplus lipstick on their lips. It only takes a moment to do and prevents the mess and embarrassment that can happen otherwise.

Mistake #5 - Forgetting the Lip Liner In your Makeup Organiser:

Along with your makeup brushes, a good lip liner is essential for women aiming for a great look. Despite some saying that it’s only for older ladies, it’s something that everyone should use to provide lip definition and a guide to help show which areas need to be covered by lipstick. The only thing we will say is that it needs to be a lip liner that closely matches your lippy’s colour.
