Despite what you may have heard, the travel and tourism industry is still very much alive and kicking. So if you’re currently working on your career direction and personal development, you might be wondering whether it is still an excellent sector to train for. That’s precisely what we examine here, as we look at how well-paid roles are in the industry.

As you’ll discover by taking short travel courses, there’s a wide variety of positions available to anyone coming into the sector. By reading on, you’ll find out about 5 of them that pay particularly well. While not everyone is motivated by money - particularly in this industry - it's still nice to know that you’ll get the remuneration that’s in line with the passion and drive you to put into the job.

Role #1 - Travel Agent

As a travel agent, you’ll be spending your time putting together great holiday experiences for your customers, arranging flights, accommodation, excursions and more. Anyone in this position in Australia can expect to earn as much as $55,000 per year, with more experienced professionals earning even more than that. A salary that’s certainly not to be sniffed at!

Role #2 - Tour Guide

As travel and tourism courses show us, tour guides are typically highly knowledgeable about the area they’re working in, providing lots of useful information and guidance to everyone in their party. This is a surprisingly well-paid role with entry-level positions paying $53,000 per year in the region. With experience under your belt, you can make as much as $80k annually!

Role #3 - Flight Attendant

Another role that represents more of a vocation than a mere ‘job’ for those who do it is flight attendant and it involves ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable time getting to their destination. These highly trained professionals can earn in excess of $50,000 per year while also getting to visit some of the most exotic and exciting parts of the world. Excellent work if you can get it!

Role #4 - Restaurant Manager

Short courses in travel and tourism cover the industry with an incredibly diverse range of positions, with restaurant managers numbering among them. This is highly demanding work that can be carried out in a wide range of settings like cruise ships, holiday resorts and more. What’s more, it can earn you in excess of $60,000 per year. Another significant paying role!

Role #5 Event Coordinator

There’s an array of reasons why an event coordinator might be required in the travel industry, whether it’s for an international commercial event or organising an evening of entertainment for holidaymakers. This exciting role is also well paid, with an average salary of just over $51,000 and the best-paid people in the industry making over $70,000.

A Wealth of Professional Possibilities In the Industry

So, as we can see, while the travel industry is still in the process of dusting itself down after global lockdowns, it still offers a wealth of opportunities that are not just exciting but also well-paid. The great news is that if you’re thinking of getting into the sector yourself, short tourism courses  like our Tourism Career Sampler are a great way to get your foot in the door.
