There aren’t many certainties in life aside from death and taxes, but we think people making makeup errors can be added to that list. You’ve only got to go onto platforms like TikTok and Instagram to find some hilarious makeup video  posts of when it goes really wrong, right?!

What Problems Do You Face When Applying Makeup?

That’s quite a broad question that perhaps only a makeup artist  can fully explain, but suffice it to say that plenty of challenges stand between you and flawless-looking makeup. The risk of makeup over-use, skin type considerations and order of application are all obstacles that must be overcome.

What Are Some Everyday Makeup Mistakes People Make?

So, now we get to the exciting bit. It’s important to state at this point that even those who’ve completed makeup course training can make these kinds of mistakes, so don’t worry if you’re having trouble. So, let’s take a look at some of the most common failures and how to go about them.

The Fail: Eye Shadow On The Cheeks

When using powdered eye shadow, it’s pretty easy for some of the product to drop down onto the cheeks below. It’s a frustrating aspect that can ruin the makeup look you’ve put all your hard work into creating. However, there is a simple way to avoid it.

The Solution: As short online courses in makeup invariably show the solution is to do the eye area first; that way, should any drop-down, it doesn’t really matter, as that area hasn’t been done yet.

The Fail: Feathering Lipstick

While lipstick is essential to creating fantastic makeup for your clients as a makeup artist, it has a nasty habit of getting where it shouldn’t be. The good news is that this annoying occurrence can be stopped in its tracks simply by using the right product to set the lipstick.

The Solution: By applying a lip primer and pencil, your client’s lipstick will be held firmly in place all day, meaning that the tell-tale sign of rubbed-off lippy around the mouth is avoided.

The Fail: Foundation That Looks Like a Mask

There’s nothing more likely to ruin a makeup look for a makeup artist  than a foundation that doesn’t match the client’s natural skin tone or that isn’t blended in properly. In fact, it’s likely to leave your customer looking like they’re wearing some kind of makeup mask.

The Solution: Take the time to properly match the foundation you’re using to your client’s skin, and be sure to carry out the necessary blending for a seamless look.

The Fail: Clown-Like Blusher

If there is a product that embodies the slogan ‘less is more’ it’s blusher, as it’s so easy to overuse it and end up with a clown-like appearance. This is mainly the case when the skin is dewy, which can exacerbate the problem even more. Again, a natural look is easy to achieve when you know how.

The solution: If you switch to a cream blusher instead, it will be easier to blend in for a supernatural look. See! We told you it was easy to achieve!
