Positive Attitude:
Your attitude affects the relationships you have with your co-workers and supervisor, the way you feel about the tasks you are asked to accomplish, and how satisfied you are with your employment. A positive attitude in your work means that you look for the best qualities in those with whom you work, that you take on challenges willingly, and that you find ways to accomplish even the most tedious tasks without complaint.
Dependability:
Being dependable means that you do what you say you will do. Your colleagues and manager rely on you to accomplish responsibilities associated with your job. Your efforts contribute to the success of others. Ask yourself what constitutes success in your particular position and then ensure that you constantly work to exceed those expectations. Being dependable will make you a valued employee.
Continual Learning:
Continual learning enables you to increase the contribution you make to your company. Will you be willing to take the time to learn new skills and become a more valuable and productive employee?
Initiative:
Taking the initiative to do things better provides insight into the kind of person you are. Instead of doing things the way they have always been done, share your new ideas with your employer and make a case for the investment. Even if your idea is not received as well as you would have hoped, at least you did your best and learned. Take a chance, study a short course OR try a new project; you will be amazed at the impact it will have on you and the new skills you will learn.
Cooperation:
If you can get along with your team and can share your talents with others, you have just made the work environment a better one and you will also have a grateful employer. By helping your co-workers get along, you will make your company a better place for everyone and this will not go unnoticed.
Self-motivated:
While the role of every manager is to motivate their employees, they appreciate and seek ones that create their own motivation. It makes a huge difference to have an employee that has an inner drive to organise their work versus one who needs constant guidance to perform day to day activities. Employers look for employees that have a level of self–motivation that will not require a high level of "hand-holding," as well as the ability to tackle the expected obstacles that arise in day-to-day business.
Punctual:
If you will be unable to report to work at the scheduled time, it is your responsibility to call in ahead of time to inform your supervisor of this.
Provide quality service at all times:
Every time you perform a work task, no matter how menial it may seem, your name is connected with it. Be a person who strives for excellence, not just "good enough." You represent your employer in your work...please autograph your work with excellence.
The ability to work hard:
This probably comes as no surprise, but the hard-working and productive employee is highly valued by employers. This means being willing to do occasional overtime when required, or doing your best work (and not being a clown) when on the job.
This trait is also related to self-motivation and the desire to succeed. Employers stated in surveys that the self-driven employee who wants to achieve success at work (and takes the necessary steps) usually does.
Product knowledge:
Employers value team member who takes an interest in their company and understands thoroughly the product or expertise that is the basis of company profits. They also consider enthusiasm and a high opinion of the company and the position's positive qualities.
Communication skills:
Good, clear communication, whether during an oral presentation or when writing a company email, are a valued trait in employees. Knowing how to listen to instructions is also another equally important skill valued by employers.
